Ramadan Ifatrs at Squires Food Court
|
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. It is during this month that Muslims observe the Fast of Ramadan. Lasting for the entire month, Muslims fast during the daylight hours and in the evening eat small meals and visit with friends and family. It is a time of worship and contemplation. A time to strengthen family and community ties.
Towards that end, the MSA at Virginia Tech coordinates Iftar dinners during the month of Ramadan for the Blacksburg community. In the spirit of this collaborative effort, the Blacksburg community is encouraged to volunteer to help cook for these iftars, as it does require a nominal time commitment. The more volunteers that show, the better, as there is always work that needs be done.
If requested, all the major materials (meat, chicken, rice, vegtables) can be provided by the MSA. We usually expect around 40-50 people at these Iftars. We ask for at least 2 volunteers for each day. Each volunteer is asked to prepare one or two dishes. Also please try to co-ordinate with the other volunteer on your day.
